Above: Self Portrait, In White Whale, Las Vegas (circa 1970s) by Hunter S. Thompson
Unbeknownst to me, Hunter S. Thompson carried a camera during parts of his savage journey to the heart of the American dream. A show of his photographs is now on view at M+B Gallery in Los Angeles, and by the looks of it he was a damn fine shooter. Although, I’d submit that photos are utterly powerless when faced with the mental images Thompson created with his writing. Whatever the case, the exhibition confirms that whether with pen or camera, Thompson was forever in search of the weird.
