The temptation is always too great – I need to know what some random stranger thinks are the 20 greatest guitar solos of all time or top ten greatest dystopian films. Why I dig these lists so much I cannot say, but my guess is that they feed my voracious appetites for both useless information and wasting valuable time.

But this one hundred greatest fonts list is different. First off it’s in German, so I can’t really glean too much info. But what I like about it is its execution: the fonts are listed down the page, and clicking on any of them releases a drop-down that contains some info and an example of the font from popular usage, many of which are kind of surprising. Did you know the font used on the cover of Beyonce’s album Deja Vu is called “Wilhelm Klingspor Gotisch”?

Of course I was most interested to see where my favorite News Gothic ranked (a respectable 64th), and to snicker at the absence of Papyrus and Comic Sans.
