Polaroids: 01 of 52 | 01.04.08

Back Porch, Central Street, Somerville, MA 2002I’ve recently relocated to New England after a stint in Western New York. Before that it was the Pacific Northwest, Southeast Pennsylvania, our Nation’s Capital, and Western Maryland. I made this Polaroid in 2002, when I was living in Seattle, visiting a friend in Somerville that I had first met in Washington, DC (she was visiting from Philadelphia).

For nearly the entirety of this millennium, I have been on my way somewhere else. As I write this, my mind wanders into the future, thinking about stability and what it’s like. Certainly the life I’ve led while inhabiting this waking dream has been a warm one, but I’ve always been passing through something temporary.

Having recently extracted myself from yet another space, I seek a career – something to do and a place to do it. But that could mean giving up on perhaps my most cultivated skill. I may have to be still.

~

Note: Consider this the first in a series. There’ll be a new Polaroid each week but the term “new” only applies to this blog, I’ll feature images from all my eras. Some vintage, some fresh; maybe some words, maybe not. No guarantees, explicit or implied. I’ve shot a lot of Polaroids, here’s a chance to share some of those less seen. Enjoy.
