If I may digress, I have to mention a bit of baseball news … before it’s too late.

My beloved but hapless Baltimore Orioles – widely predicted to stink up the American League East this year – are in first place! Not only that, the despicable New York Yankees are sittin’ in the basement!

I’m sure the O’s will dutifully make their way to the cellar soon, and the twenty-five year title drought will continue in Charm City. But it’s fun to pretend.

Maybe this year’s team could summon the spirit of ’89 when – after an ’88 season that saw them start 0-21 and finish last – they came within a game of the division title. Their motto that year: Why Not?
