Standard Operating Procedure I am going to go out on a very strong, anchored limb here and predict that Errol Morris’s new film – Standard Operating Procedure – is going to be remembered as a key moment in the history of photography.

The “revolution” that is digital photography has provided grist for artists, economists, historians, and the like. But the way this film appears to pinpoint the evolution – and now, power – of the citizen journalist appears to be a new high point in how we understand the power of images.

Certainly see the film, and by all means listen to this interview with Morris from yesterday’s edition of NPR’s “Day To Day”, where he analyzes the use of the Abu Ghraib images in an entirely new way, focusing not on the evilness of the military personnel who took them, but their motivations. Stunning.
