The Week In Links

“This, that, and the other” from around the web for the week of September 29th through October 3rd, 2008.

  • Photographs by William Eggleston | Fine Art Auction | Christie’s
Just about every important photograph that William Eggleston has ever made will be on the auction block at Christie’s on October 13th, with the marquee item being a complete, 75 dye-transfer print “Los Alamos, 1965-74″ portfolio (estimate: $350,000-$550,000). The good news for us poor shlubs? In November, the Whitney (admission: a measly $15) will open a huge retrospective of Eggleston’s work. (via The Year in Pictures.)
  • Five In Focus: What Photographers See
Cinematography and still photographs have a complicated relationship, but their reciprocal influence in undeniable. Film In Focus asked Gregory Crewdson, Larry Sultan, Lauren Greenfield, and Amy Stein to list five films that have influenced their work, and there are some interesting picks (in addition to the wealth of Todd Haynes and David Lynch).

This month’s Artforum cover looks great – a grid of chairs! (Thanks for the heads up, Jason!)
